Bye Laws

1. DEFINITIONS
  • 1.1 Regional Society: A regional society is a constituted society representing a number of national vascular surgical societies from a specific geographical region or where a single large national society represents the majority of vascular surgeons from a geographical region. The geographical regions under consideration are:
    • - North America
    • - Europe
    • - Latin America
    • - Asia
    • - Australia and New Zealand
    • - North Africa and Middle East
    • - Southern Africa

  • 1.2 National Society: A national society is a society representing vascular surgeons in a particular country.
  • 1.3 Hosting member society: The regional society delegated by Council to host the annual World Federation symposium in a particular year.


2. MEMBERSHIP
  • 2.1 The following will be member societies:
    • 2.1.1 Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) representing North America
    • 2.1.2 European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) representing Europe
    • 2.1.3 Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery (ANZSVS) representing Australia and New Zealand
    • 2.1.4 Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery (JVS) representing Japan
    • 2.1.5 Vascular Society of Southern Africa (VASSA) representing Southern Africa
    • 2.1.6 Vascular Society of India (VSI) representing India
  • 2.2 The following will be affiliated national societies:
    • 2.2.1 None (October 2007)


3. GUIDELINES FOR SYMPOSIA
  • 3.1 The format of the symposia will be determined by the hosting member society. The format should be presented to the Council well in advance (at least one year preceding the symposium or congress) to develop consistency and to ensure inclusivity.
  • 3.2 Titles of lectures and proposed speakers will be agreed by Council one year in advance.
    • 3.2.1 Speakers at the symposia or congresses will be financed by their member societies, but sponsorship may be accepted in this regard.
    • 3.2.2 The member organisation is responsible for logistic arrangements related to their own speakers.
  • 3.3 The hosting member organisation will supply the following facilities during the annual World Federation Symposium:
    • 3.3.1 An auditorium for the Symposium.
    • 3.3.2 A room for the Council meeting.
    • 3.3.3 Additional rooms that are required and that are pre-booked by Council.
    • 3.3.4 A programme of the Symposium.
  • 3.4 The hosting member organisation will be responsible for advertising the annual World Federation Symposium in cooperation with the member societies.
  • 3.5 The symposia on the following topics should be included in the programme:
    • - Scientific
    • - Political
    • - Education
  • 3.6 A reception for all attendees and a dinner for speakers and councillors will be desirable. Sponsorship for such events can be sought.


4. ROTATION OF SYMPOSIA
  • 4.1 Drawing up the rotation of hosting member societies is the responsibility of Council. This rotation should be drawn up for the next 5 (five) years.
  • 4.2 The following considerations will be taken into account while compiling the rotation:
    • 4.2.1 The willingness of a member society to host the annual World Federation symposium.
    • 4.2.2 The financial viability of a member society hosting the annual World Federation symposium.
    • 4.2.3 Ensuring that a maximum number of attendees are able to participate.
    • 4.2.4 An even distribution between the various regions of the world.
    • 4.2.5 An even distribution between large and small member societies.
  • 4.3 The proposed hosting member organisations will:
    • 4.3.1 Inform Council of acceptance of the invitation to host the annual World Federation Symposium four years in advance of the proposed symposium. Such acceptance will be subject to adequate guarantees of being able to provide the appropriate facilities.
    • 4.3.2 Present to council the dates when and the venue at which the annual World Federation Symposium be held, three years prior to the event.
    • 4.3.3 A progress report in regard to arrangements at all subsequent Council meetings, until the event has occurred.
    • 4.3.4 The proposed programme, title of lectures and speakers, a year prior to the annual World Federation Symposium.


5. LOGO AND BRANDING
  • 5.1 The development of a logo and appropriate branding will be considered at the first constituted Council meeting.


6. WEBSITE
  • 6.1 The development of site will be considered at the first constituted Council meeting.
